The Art of Selling Yourself

'The Art of Selling Yourself was an invaluable experience for me as an actress. Not only was the information provided relevant and helpful, but setting the course over 12 weeks allowed us to delve deeply into subject matters, such as castings or cover letters. Consistent classes with the same group of actors created a motivational support network and provided a weekly focal point for my career.'.

Janette (participant, 2017)

“The Art of Selling Yourself”, is a weekly course, which explores many aspects of selling an artist’s performing skills to potential employers, in up to twelve 2-hour sessions. It began in 1992 at The Holborn Centre for the Perforning Arts in London, where it ran continuously until 1997 and has since been presented regularly in drama and theatre schools and for seven seasons at The Actors Centre over the last 20 years.

Richard will return to The Actors Centre, London, to present the eighth season of The Art of Selling Yourself, from October to December 2019.

Not getting enough auditions?   Does your career need a boost?

THE ART OF SELLING YOURSELF

WHAT IS IT? A series of 8 weekly workshops, exploring the most effective ways of selling your performing skills to potential employers and how to stand out in an overcrowded marketplace.

HOW WILL IT WORK? We will discuss a different topic each week. These will include finding out what’s casting and how best to suggest yourself, promoting yourself online, career goals and motivation, networking and being memorable, preparation for auditions and castings and maximising your impact in the audition room. There will be an opportunity to air and share questions and experiences with Richard and those in the group, and after each session, we’ll adjourn to the Green Room bar to get to know each other on a more social level.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? A weekly career focal point, providing impetus for action, coupled with a support network for performers, with or without agents, at any stage of their career.

'In "The Art of Selling Yourself" course at The Actor's Centre, Richard allowed us to see the casting process from the casting director's perspective, to better understand how to get a foot in the door and how to stand-out in an oversaturated market. It was an invaluable experience for me as a performer and one that I would definitely recommend to both new and established performers.'
